Airtel Doubles Rural Connectivity &amp; 5G Investment in International Edition

Airtel Nigeria intends to increase its capital spending twofold in 2025 with the aim of speeding up the deployment of 5G technology and extending mobile coverage into less-serviced rural regions, according to the nation’s second-biggest telecommunications company.

The additional expenditure will support a significant network improvement initiative. This encompasses setting up new locations, enlarging the fiber-optic foundation, and upgrading current facilities using advanced radio systems. Additionally, Airtel intends to utilize the capabilities of the 2Africa undersea cable to amplify data throughput throughout their system.

The network enhancement is aligned with a significant pact signed on March 26, 2025, between Airtel Africa and MTN Group to collaborate on infrastructure sharing throughout Africa. This agreement seeks to reduce expenses for setup, broaden access in remote areas, and enhance overall service quality.
