Nigerian Tech Wunderkind Breaks World Record with Ultra-Small GPS Tracker
A young Nigerian technology prodigy named Oluwatobi Oyinlola has created the tiniest GPS tracker globally, with an initial model sized at 22.93 x 11.92 millimeters.
The device, acknowledged by the Guinness World Records, was developed at the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States on April 27. He works as a researcher at this institution.
It has been praised for its wide-ranging possibilities spanning various sectors, including logistics, individual protection, healthcare equipment, and animal tracking.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria congratulated Oyinlola on X, highlighting her achievement as an example of the creativity of the nation's young people from Western Africa. "You've demonstrated to the world that Nigerian youth possess great potential!" he commented.
In addition to the praises, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, commended the innovation as an emblem of national pride and a showcase for technological promise.
He praised Oyinlola's progress, highlighting his initial endorsement of the young innovator’s IoT venture. "Even prior to this international acclaim, I was honored to invest in Oluwatobi. His ongoing endeavors at MIT exemplify the remarkable talent within our community," Tijani stated.
The prototype doesn’t just signify a major advancement in compact technology; it also underscores Nigeria’s increasing presence in worldwide innovation. According to Bosun, as Nigeria steps up its initiatives to cultivate local technological expertise, Oyinlola’s achievements serve as an inspiration for upcoming generations of inventors.
"The world is just starting to witness your capabilities," stated the Minister.
